Personal History
I graduated from Leeds University in June 1996 from a Media Studies Honours Degree and immediately returned to Brighton to find a home for myself within the burgeoning media industry.
With the Help of the Princes Youth Business Trust and Natwest bank, I set about creating a company called "Bulletproof Films" to produce promotional videos for bands signed to small record labels with a view to branching into small business corporate promotional video. In order to promote this company a friend who worked for an ISP suggested I create a web site for the company, so, armed with the dial-up account he gave us, I set about learning HTML by "reverse engineering" other peoples web sites.
In late 1997, at the forefront of the "dot com" boom, we diversified into producing promotional print material and web sites and became "Bulletproof Multimedia". Armed with the skills I had learned building the companies web site and my business partners skills in graphic design we grew the company into a successful web design and promotions company, with a strong client base from within the local community.
In 1999 Bulletproof ran a series of training courses in conjunction with Pavilion Internet plc, SchoolNet and Horizon Training, where I tutored advanced HTML to everyone from individuals, small businesses, representatives from larger corporations and teachers who then use these skills to teach their children.
When Bulletproof closed it's doors in early 2000, I moved on to work with several of Brighton's major web companies on large corporate accounts, most notably Liquid Light (Specsavers, Photodisc), Workzone (Go-Fly, Holiday Autos) and Victoria Real (Norwich Union, Big Brother), covering both graphic design and programming roles. During this time I established Metal Dragons; a design agency producing creative for the entertainment industry. We designed promotional material for club nights in the Brighton area such as Steadyrockin' and Mezzanine, gave art direction and designed album covers for Lumenessence Recordings and created promotional campaigns for Cadbury, Hewlett Packard, Amazon, Electric Fuel, Airmiles and Future365.
In late 2001 I joined Motionpath Digital Media Ltd as a project manager, where I initiated and co-ordinated work for such clients as Bath and Bristol Tourism, Tapestry Holidays, Exclusive Escapes Ltd, and Clear Cut Pictures.
In early 2005 I made the decision to leave Motionpath and work as a freelance web designer. During this time I worked for many local companies such as Semantico, Nixon McInnes and Bellman as well as national bodies such as the NHS.
I continued freelancing until March 2006 when I accepted a job as a Senior Designer within the Creative Services department of multinational online games publisher NCsoft Europe Ltd. During my time at NCsoft I designed and produced a huge range of products including global community web sites and marketing sites, box products, merchandising and print advertising all in multiple languages. I also represented the company at trade shows and consumer shows often alongside the charity Draw the World Together of which NCsoft was a sponsor. In September 2008 I received an award for Outstanding Digital Design for the site Discover Lineage 2.
Returning to freelance work after NCsoft Europe's corporate downsizing in early 2009, I have continued to produced work for companies such as Message Digital (Travel Money Now, Rouleur, Katie Price), Kanoti (Azedeh, FilmClub), Subcircle, Yard Studios (PlanB, Seasick Steve, Jonsi) and Crush (Reckless) as well as art directed for other agencies, individuals and music artists.
