Sketchie - Rifles of the 1900’s 12”

Sleeve design for Sketchie’s 12” EP; “Rifles of the 1900’s” on Lumenessence Records.

For this design I quickly decided to follow the title of the release literally and feature an image of a rifle from the 1900’s. I first sketched a technical style drawing of an Springfield rifle using an array of original source imagery, scanning this into Adobe Illustrator I then traced the sketch into vectors and shaded it using fills. To have this release fit alongside the previous EP “Blood at Fox Willow Grove” I also vector traced an image of a giant serpent I had lifted from the recording artist’s sketch book and placed this to look like an engraving on the rifle’s lock plate.

This release would set the template for the future design direction of all Sketchie’s releases using the overlying theme of 20th Century American with it’s left-over colonialism, frontier towns and change brought about by Civil War.

Work Undertaken: November 2003
